A board-certified ophthalmic surgeon, fellowship-trained in oculoplastic surgery and passionate about cosmetic and aesthetic procedures
Molly Orban, MD is originally from south Florida. She grew up in a town called Jupiter, Florida where she was able to both ride horses down the dirt road she grew up on and get to the beach within 15 minutes! Dr. Orban attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida where she cheered on the Gators and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Shortly after, she moved on to Orlando, FL where she earned her medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Orban then completed her one-year transitional year internship at UCF, a mix of medical and surgical training at Osceola Regional Medical Center. She later matched at the Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, SC for her ophthalmology residency. She also served as the Chief Resident during her senior year, and in this role was able to lead and represent a group of excellent physicians. In 2022, Dr. Orban completed her fellowship training in ophthalmic plastic, reconstructive, and orbital surgery right here at Wilmington Eye, under the direction of Dr. Alan Oester, Jr.. Dr. Orban’s training in oculoplastic surgery uniquely positions her to provide high-level aesthetic assessments and procedures as well as cancer reconstructive surgery, upper and lower eyelid lifts, eyelid malposition repair, and other oculoplastic procedures.
Her interest in ophthalmology stems from one of her first jobs, where she worked in a family-run optometry clinic in her hometown of Jupiter, Florida. It was there that Dr. Orban first learned to appreciate the gift of sight, and became more interested in vision care as she learned the process of pre-testing patients, contact lens trainings, and optical sales. In medical school, Dr. Orban loved the field of surgery, but wanted a practice where she got to know her patients and served them over an extended period of time. Ophthalmology was the perfect fit to combine those two passions, and she has only grown more passionate about the field with each year of practice.
“I care deeply about my patients’ vision and orbital function, but also about their self-esteem and self-image. I aspire to be the physician and surgeon my patients recommend to their friends and family.”
During medical school, Dr. Orban married her high-school sweetheart, and they now have two beautiful daughters. In her spare time, she loves biking, hiking, horseback riding, sailing, going to the beach, and spending quality time with her family.
