The Newest Glaucoma Drop Administration System Now Being Offered

Wilmington Eye Now Offering the Newest Glaucoma Drop Administration System

Dr. Robert van der Vaart, board-certified glaucoma surgeon with Wilmington Eye, is leading the way in glaucoma management

WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA, October 5th, 2020 — Dr. Robert van der Vaart, partner and board-certified ophthalmic surgeon who specializes in glaucoma, has recently begun offering glaucoma patients the newest medical device in glaucoma treatment.

Durysta, the first of its kind to be FDA-approved for use in the United States, is an implant that offers continuous release of vision-saving glaucoma drops over a 6 month to 2 year period. This sustained release drug delivery system offers an excellent alternative treatment option for glaucoma patients who have difficulty with tolerance to topical medication, or struggle with cost or compliance of their glaucoma drops.

“I’m thrilled to now include this option in my glaucoma treatment offering to patients. I believe this can offer a significant benefit to people who suffer from glaucoma,” says Dr. van der Vaart, partner and ophthalmic surgeon at Wilmington Eye.

In addition, the Durysta implant as well as the procedure itself are covered by most insurances, including Medicare.
