Dr. Pickens brings over 25 years of experience in primary eyecare including a special focus on the management and treatment of ocular conditions like glaucoma and anterior segment diseases. Patients may also be seen by board-certified medical ophthalmologist, Dr. Mary Hoffman, who has over 25 years of experience treating and managing extensive eye conditions. Appointments with skilled optometrist, Dr. Jill Greene are also available in Southport. Dr. Greene specializes in primary eye care, post-operative care, as well as offering expertise on the treatment and management of ocular disorders and diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

Our Southport team is also comprised of skilled board-certified ophthalmic surgeons, Dr. Matej Polomsky and Dr. Travis Jenkins. Both surgeons possess over a decade of experience and offer exceptional surgical care for patients in need of cataract surgery. Dr. Polomsky specializes in advanced blade-less cataract surgery, premium intraocular lens implantation, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Getting to our Southport office

Wilmington Eye in Southport is central to various beach communities and towns in Brunswick County. Whether you reside in Southport, ride the ferry into town, or travel from neighboring towns, there are a few ways you can reach our Southport office.

Whether you’re coming from areas like Holden Beach, Supply, Bolivia, or Shallotte, look for signs to catch NC-211 south, or Southport-Supply Road southeast. This will take you straight into Southport and eventually you will see a few landmarks on the left, a Lowes Home Improvement, Walgreens, and a Bojangles. Turn left onto J. Swain Blvd, then take an immediate right at the first cross street onto Eason Street, and you should see our office on the right.

From Wilmington, you’ll take highway 17 across the Cape Fear River into Brunswick County. Take the exit toward Southport/Oak Island and merge onto NC-122 south, or River Road southeast, where you’ll stay for approximately 20 miles until you take a left onto NC-87 south. After about 2 miles, you’ll take a right on Dosher Cutoff southeast, then a right onto NC-211 north (or Southport-Supply Road southeast). After about a half a mile, take a right onto J. Swain Blvd, then an immediate right onto Eason Street and you will see us on your right.

If you’re coming from either the Fort Fisher Ferry or the Bald Head Island Ferry, look for NC-211 north, or Ferry Road southeast. At the traffic circle, take the third exit onto NC-211 North, or East Moore Street for about a quarter of a mile. Then turn right onto Stuart Ave; continue for a mile, then turn right onto NC-211 north, or north Howe Street. After a mile and a half, turn right onto J. Swain Blvd.
